Doubts on Portuguese Projections

Postby TTome on Mon Jun 09, 2008 9:48 am

Hi all!

I've just started to try and use QGIS, namely trying to apply some basic knowledge of ESRI's software to work my way around QGIS. However, I have a small issue that I don't know how to figure out:

When I try to define the coordinate projection for the project, the designations for the portuguese coordinate systems do not correspond to the usual names we use. For instance, I cannot find an equivalent to the Lisbon Hayford-Gauss IGeoE projection. Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanx!

P.S.: One other thing, this projection I refered above is a military-based coordinate system. Hope this is useful to the identification of the system I'm looking for and I'm really, really hoping someone out there can help me out! :)

Hello

I am a portuguese QGIS user too! Always nice to know we are not alone :)

The QGis projection for the portuguese military coordinate system, also known as Sistema Hayford-Gauss Militar, is QGIS SRSID 1146, or in textual description, "Lisbon (Lisbon)/Portuguese National Grid".
To set this up you would have to change your project properties and then in the projection tab.

Also very useful for the Hayford Gauss Modern System, based on the Datum 73, there is the QGIS SRSID 1598 or "Datum 73/Modifed Portuguese Grid".

I hope this is helpful.

P.S. - Se precisares de ajuda nalguma coisa é só perguntar. Já agora, para saberes mais sobre os sistemas de projecção portugueses aconselho o link: http://www.estig.ipbeja.pt/%7Elegvm/top ... ref_pt.pdf
